“To arrive on your own in a foreign country without any real idea of what to expect can be a daunting experience but with the warm welcome and assistance I received throughout my stay it was an experience to relish rather than be scared of!
My colleagues took me under their wing and all helped me very much, caring for me like I was family! Though not all could speak English I was able to build a good relationship with each person and they all helped me with anything
I was mentored very well by senior staff, helping me with my development throughout my internship and always had time to explain new things for me to understand
Having being placed in an internship in an import/export trading company, I was able to get involved with importing and exporting to the point were I was eventually left to my own devices. I was trusted and given the responsibility to deal internationally, and given support and advice by staff along the way, which allowed me to gain invaluable experience I don’t feel I could have gained in an internship in my own country (certainly not as soon as I did).
My experience was very positive and every person involved was helpful and cared for me in a way I never anticipated. I will remember my time in Beijing as a fruitful and happy one.

“Coming to china was an important decision I had to take though coming to a country which only reference I had was its booming economy was scary. I was overwhelmed by Beijing at first and didn’t expect what this city could offer a foreigner like me, with endless activities from culture to a vibrating night scene, I even could practice skiing!
My internship in a trading company made me realize about the endless possibilities and opportunities of learning business in China and the importance of acquiring the knowledge to deal in this market.
I helped with the design/translation of company websites, set-up and managed business-to-business websites in order to showcase our products and services and to search for products for specific clients in Europe/Middle East, obtaining pricing, negotiating on pricing, and presenting the information to the clients for them to choose between products
Thanks to this experience I decided to stay and live in Beijing”

I must analyze this internship within 2 aspects: the human and the professional aspect.

First of all, let me say that it is really hard to come in a foreign country, a country which I don’t speak the language and which is so different from my home country (France). So I had some worries before coming and was asking myself how I will manage to leave in Beijing for more than 2 months. All these worries disappear quickly thanks to my work colleagues who also become my close friends. Indeed, they integrated me easily in their group as if I was one of them for ages. And generally speaking, my friends are the perfect image of Chinese people in my eyes: warmhearted, friendly and helpful.

On the other hand, this experience in China was my best experience ever had, because it made me think about many things, such as Chinese people behaviors, they ways of expressing themselves, they ways of doing businesses… so many different things as regards to European countries. I knew that China was an old civilization but after having seen the old buildings, temples, the great wall…etc, then I realized that I was somewhere unique with a long history. So I loved China, and particularly Beijing.

Concerning the professional aspect of my internship, I worked in a company specialized in the import / export and distribution of quality foods and beverages. One of my mission consisted in finding foreign companies which are interested in exporting their products to China. Then our company organizes the distribution of the products to the different stores. After having take contact with the foreign companies, I always asked for samples and quotations. We discuss with our marketing and trading department colleagues to see if the product can succeed on the Chinese market, and then take the decision to import it. All this import process is a long term process, so everything must be forecasted and assessed.

Let’s take one example of what I’ve done: I’ve contacted a French company who were interested in exporting its Organic Tea, Coffee, and Wine…etc. After having received the samples in our office and the quotation, we decided to have a meeting with the Chairman of this company. So I organized a meeting in Beijing, in he’s hotel. The meeting has been good and we decided to import the products from France to China. Unfortunately, it was the end of my internship, so I couldn’t continue to deal with this company anymore; but my colleagues have taken my place.

I’ve also checked some international business documents like the official papers of the letter of credit, the bill of lading, certificates…etc. Any mistake is forbidden in these documents, even taping mistakes; so I double-checked them very carefully and I found some mistakes; then I told to my trading department colleague to correct them and then to send it to the client. My colleague appreciated my work because if there were any mistake, then, the client can refuse to pay the invoice even if he already gets the freight.

So, as you see, I had several small missions which made my work various and not boring. I really enjoyed to be in this company and to contribute to their success. Even if I hadn’t had too much responsibilities (of course, in an internship of 2 months, you don’t have many responsibilities), I thanks all of my colleagues who trust me. I also thanks to N.E. Global Internship who find me this internship and followed my folder well
